A Local’s Guide to Copenhagen’s Best Brunch Spots

If you’ve been following me on Instagram or here on the blog, then you must know that Brunch is my favourite thing to do. Don’t tell my employer but I consider being a brunch connoisseur to be my real job; being a lawyer is just my side-gig hehe! Brunch is an institution here in Copenhagen, so if you’re in the city, you must partake! There are so many good spots and I’ve made it my mission to find the best one. Having previously done a couple of recommendations posts HERE and HERE, I decided to do one consolidated guide to Copenhagen’s best brunch spots from my perspective as a local. I intend to keep this post updated and add/bump place as my mission continues. Some spots require bookings, others walk-ins only, portion sizing could be improved at a number of places but every single spot on here is a delight. Alright let’s dive in so you can get booking…where you can!

Ø12 | One of my favourite brunch spots in Copenhagen. The food is delicious; all the dishes I have tried (and there are a lot!), I have loved. I love their juices – the pear, mint concoction is my absolute fave. There’s more than one location and you can reserve tables. It is sooooooo good and reasonably priced too – what’s not to love?! Website | Instagram

Apotek 57 | This is probably the brunch spot that I have been to the most, with friends but also solo. You can’t make a reservation (which can be annoying if you go in the afternoon because the QUEUE) but it’s worth the wait if you have the time because the food is scrumptious. Really it is, regardless of if it’s breakfast/brunch or solid lunch food. My only complaint is that the portions are quite small so you may have to spend a lot just to be full. Annoying but whatever, I still go back. It’s located in central Copenhagen (Indre By) and is adjoining the FRAMA design shop so why not stop in there and have a browse of their innovative furniture and other design items. Atelier September | This eatery is just up the road from Apotek 57. Another spot where you cannot make a reservation so go early or be patient as you wait for a table. The food is worth it though, very yummy, simple but so yummy. Only con is that, like Apotek 57, I do find the food to be quite pricey for what you get. Website | Instagram

Krôyers – A new fave that’s about to become a regular haunt for me. It’s one of those rare spots in Copenhagen where you will leave feeling stuffed and satisfied in one sitting. My friend even suggested that we could have shared our brunch, that’s how filling it is. The brunch is a set menu on Sundays with a couple of optional variations and the verdict is quite simple – it’s delightful. The decor is giving fabulous grandma’s living room, Parisian style with lots of cool vintage paintings and pieces. It feels charmingly cosy and inviting, just like the owner Grace who made us feel right at home. I would highly recommend. Website | Instagram

Søkkelund – You can’t go wrong with a classic French breakfast in a very fabulous dining setting in Frederiksberg. The food is done just right in impeccably chic surroundings. Feel free to dress up a little bit because the crowd tend to be quite fancy. Website | Instagram

Admiralgade 26 – If you’re up for something a bit different but with deliciousness guaranteed, then the Japanese breakfast, (“Chouchoku”) at Admiralgade 26 is the one to go for. A Nordic twist on Japanese food in the most delightful and hygge-est of settings (hygge-est is a word, I made it a word, fight with your mum!), this is absolutely a winner. And I bet you will want to nick more than a few of the decor items, they’re so gorgeous. I have my eye on one of the changing screens and the table-side lamps. Website | Instagram

Venner CPH | I had a friend visiting from out of town, but I had left it too late to find a table at some of my usual brunch spots so was recommended to give Venner a whirl. And it did not disappoint. Located a short walk from Nørreport, it was so good, I went back the following weekend! The hashbrowns and the Eggs Benedict were a nice touch but the real delight was the pancakes. You must try them out if you go, you will not regret it, I promise! Website | Instagram

Wulff & Konstali | Brunch in a canteen-like setting. I won’t lie, it can feel a little chaotic and it’s a bit of a tight fit with all the tables jammed in there but if you can get past that, the yummy food makes up for it. Website | Instagram

Apollo | One that’s been long on my list and now I have finally visited. Not your average brunch fare or your typical brunch spot, which is maybe why I like it so much. I even needed instructions for how to eat our artichoke globe – yes I had to ask the waiter! Definitely worth getting, it was sooooooo yummy. Don’t be scared; just be like me and pretend to be a tourist and ask for a how-to guide. The goat cheese omelette with its pesto filling and pepper topping was another unexpected delight. It’s hard to gauge the vibe. It’s at once quite touristy but also giving iykyk vibes. Portioning was decent but could be improved. Pricing is decent too. I would have liked a more interesting dessert menu but perhaps that’s because blueberry toast is absolutely not my jam. Locatted in the same building as Kunsthal Charlottenborg so you can get your art fix after getting your blood sugar. Enjoy! Website | Instagram

Studio X Kitchen | Another good ‘un. Very much along the vibes of Apotek 57 though here the portions are not just delicious, but also generous and most importantly filling. I highly recommend you try the salad, there shall be no regrets! No reservations, just walk in or queue with hope! Instagram

Lille Fugl | This is one of my fave spots. It’s literally a hole in the wall of Gammel Strand; you will probably walk past it before you find it. Just look for a queue of people and voila, you’re there! I loved the Eggs Lille Fugl from earlier in the year but their Turkish Eggs dish is an absolute must try. The mix of flavours and textures is incredible. It is almost certainly the best Turkish Eggs I have had in Denmark and maybe even ever. Big words but try it and then come back and tell me I’m wrong. I’ll wait! Website | Instagram

Det Simrer | Another hole in the wall is this (relatively!) new Østerbro eatery, which is part of the slow food movement. Make sure to get the oven-baked egg with potato/spinach – soooo good. The blueberry pancakes were another delight. I do wish the portions were a bit more sizeable. When the food came out, I had to immediately ask for a croissant because I knew I would still be hungry. John & Woo | So many people recommended this place to me and after my visit to the Nordhavn location, I understood why. The food is scrumptious. My heart is for the Woo brunch but my friend who got the John brunch seemed equally delighted with her meal. Definitely worth a visit. Website | Instagram

Cadence – Amazing. Food is delicious, flavourful and imaginative. Portions are just right in a leafy, cosy, open and light setting in Vesterbro. Service was a little slow when I have visited but perhaps because it’s so popular. You will leave planning your next visit, trust me! Website | Instagram

The Sixteen Twelve – Being the sister restaurant to Cadence, of course the food is delicious – creative twists on brunch staples are in their DNA. Another cosy setting, this time in Nørrebro on the super cool Jægersborggade street. You can browse the cute, kitsch shops before and/or after brunch. What’s not to love? Website | Instagram

Sidecar – The only buffet brunch on this list. I’m not a huge fan of buffets and especially not with what we’ve been living through these past couple of years. However, Sidecar is worth it. So worth it. Everything was soooooo good!!! Now if you can just wait the 3 months it takes to get a reservation. Sigh. Website | Instagram

Union kitchen – Despite having been here a couple of times, the very extensive menu still can be a little overwhelming to me, though I’ve been happy every single time with my choices. Located on a side street beside Nyhavn with lots of gorgeous boutiques, you can have some good food and then do some shopping and sightseeing. #Winning Website | Instagram

Tilda og Karl | A cute local spot on Stefansgade in Nørrebro. I stumbled upon it by accident and now it’s a regular haunt for me. Food is always on point and at affordable prices. Website | Instagram

Seks | Another walk-ins only spot, this place gets quite crowded and a bit chaotic. In my opinion, the food is worth the wait and chaos, the menu is seasonal so you’re always in for a treat and the secret cake is TO DIE FOR! Website | Instagram

Polly | Lastly my local fave in Frederiksberg (I know I keep saying every spot is my fave that but it’s true!). The service is fantastic, the food is good GOOD and it has got such a lovely ambiance. I mean really, what more do you want? Afterwards, indulge in a spot of shopping (actual or window!) along the fashionable Gammel Kongvej and do a bit of people watching while you’re at it. Honourable mentions go to Livingstone Cafe, Stefanos, Mirabelle, Baryl, 20 grams and Cafe Alma.
