Spring Glow!

Finally, Hello Spring! It feels like it took forever to get to springtime this year, and yet it’s mid-April, so maybe it’s just bang on time. Whilst Summer is definitely my favourite season, Spring comes in at a very respectable second place. And for quite a few reasons; in fact here are five reasons why I love Spring:

  1. The sun has finally come out. Winters are brutal here in Scandinavia and they can feel very much like one loooooooooong dark day. But finally we have more daylight, longer days and some actual sunshine to give us that vital dose of vitamin D.
  2. It’s not just the animals coming out of hibernation, people are too! I mean, yes I try to still be as active as possible during the winter (Remember My Winter Survival Guide?) but it’s a lot easier with actual daylight in Spring. Spring ushers in more motivation to be outside and I’m not the only one who feels this way. Already, all the outdoor seats for the cafes are being snapped up, even if you still need to use a blanket to enjoy your coffee in the fresh air.
  3. The advent of Spring heralds a change in wardrobe. The temperatures are higher, so my spring wardrobe will be a lot lighter and more colourful than in the winter. I’m so ready to share all my colours with you guys!
  4. This past weekend, the cows danced as they were let out for pasture here in Denmark. I feel a little bit like that too. The collective mood is lifted, people are smiling in the streets, looking happier and more comfortable with their lot in life. Spring is a major mood booster.
  5. Everything looks prettier; the trees are getting leaves now, plants are flowering. And we’re just that bit closer to Summer, yay!

With all that said, there are some transitional moves to make as we change seasons so here are some tips:

  1. Gradually start to replace those heavy winter coats, jumpers and thermals with lighter coats like a trenchcoat and blazers. Hang on to the turtlenecks and cardigans though – we’re not out of the woods just yet.
  2. Depending on your skin type and condition, you may want to replace the thick heavy creams you’ve been using for moisture in the deep winter for lightweight, water-based products. Likewise for makeup, consider switching out the heavier full coverage make up products for skin tints so your skin can shine through. Me, I’m a skin tint girlie all year round.
  3. Start taking allergy meds if you haven’t already started. The arrival of Spring unfortunately brings with it the beginning of seasonal allergies for those who are affected. And sadly I am in that number. Don’t get caught out; stock up on tablets, nasal sprays, eye drops, nettle tea, whatever gets you through!
  4. Invest in a good, sturdy umbrella or better yet, a reliable raincoat. They don’t call it “April showers” for nothing. You’ve been warned!
  5. Lastly, invest in blackout blinds because as the sun starts rising earlier and earlier, it might force you to as well. I woke up the other day at 6AM thinking I was late for work. That’s how I knew Spring was here for real!
