I love a good amusement park (Exhibit A). I spent my birthday a few years ago at Tivoli Friheden and ever since, I’ve been itching for a proper visit to the Tivoli in Copenhagen. I have been before, but only around the grounds and never on the rides. Finally, I got the chance with some friends that were up for a good laugh.
Now let’s get one thing straight. I hate rollercoasters, they terrify me. And yet, somehow I managed to go on a fair few of the rides that Tivoli had to offer including some that literally STOLE MY BREATH. Sidenote, if you’re gonna do an amusement park with these type of death-defying rides, just make sure to do it on an empty stomach and have the appropriate hairstyle – don’t go viral for the wrong reason #ifykyk
We started off somewhat gently with the “Galley Ships“, before escalating things to the “Milky Way Express“. Then we decided to try out a ride we didn’t know anything about. Looked suspect to me because it seemed to be shaped like a plane. And then things went left…or sideways…actually upside down! Literally upside down! Aquila is not a ride to be played with. You will be left hanging, so take your heart medication before and say your prayers. After barely surviving Aquila, we shot for the stars with “The Demon” and finally decided to risk it all on “The Golden Tower“. The Golden Tower is 63 metres high and that drop…oh my goodness, that drop stole my breath. I was wondering why I didn’t hear any screams when I was waiting in the queue, then I found out why. I was screaming but with no sound. Everyone comes off that ride looking a little sober and thankful to be alive!
There are so many rides to choose from and if you time your visit just right, like we did on a Monday after work, the queues are actually not too bad and you can cover quite a lot of territory across the park. Once you have had your fill of the rides, there’s so much food on offer (and good food at that!) so gorge yourself. We finished our evening with some baked beauties from Cakehagen – I highly recommend the Egg cake – and some drinks before calling it an evening. All in all, it was an amazing experience and I am already plotting when I am going to go back, even if I am still scared, eek!
