Another year, another birthday.
I’m not normally that big on birthday celebrations but this year I was keen on doing something, anything to celebrate; I just didn’t know what form the celebration would take for obvious reasons. All I knew was it should be something fun and super playful. When my brother confirmed he could visit, I decided Tivoli Friheden was the perfect venue. I had yet to visit, and with my days in Aarhus drawing to a close, I wanted to experience as much as I could of the city’s attractions.
An amusement park at the peak of the Danish summer vacation. Sounds like a nightmare right? Wrong. I survived Disneyland Paris last year in August and had THE BEST TIME so I wasn’t concerned about Tivoli. Well, not completely. I was concerned about the numbers in terms of social distancing, especially for my brother coming in from the UK who was not quite used to life back in the wild post-lockdown. In the end, however, the numbers weren’t anything like Disneyland last year. It really wasn’t that bad, even if there were of course moments where we took a pause to avoid a particularly crowded area.
We arrived at noon and were able to get entrance tickets on the door (no prior booking required!) with relatively no time spent in the queue. Yes seriously! The BlomsterFestival (flower festival) that is currently on was an additional visual delight for us to take in. We opted not to go on any rides but this did not take away from the experience in any way. We did get involved in some of the games on offer and due to some questionable basketball shooting, narrowly missed out on a giant panda teddy (who wants one anyway?! #notbitter). In between catch ups and just enjoying each other (including a new addition to the family!!), Tivoli Friheden proved the perfect set for my birthday shenanigans.
Now that I’ve done Tivoli Friheden, I’m ready for Tivoli in Copenhagen. Let’s go!
