Postcards from Grenada

Grenada is one of those Caribbean islands that I knew of but didn’t know, so to speak. I chose it as the post-carnival 2020 lime spot because I knew from past experience that we would definitely need a spot to head to for recovery after Trinidad carnival. In the end, Grenada could not have been a better choice. There’s such a relaxed and chilled vibe to the whole island that it’s almost a cliche. This was exactly what we needed after the insanity of carnival and I’m super grateful we could go and experience it. Admittedly we had a pretty rough start to the trip with a particularly awful Airbnb stay the first evening, but happily we were able to move to the Secret Harbour Boutique Hotel the next day which was an absolute dream so the trauma was quickly forgotten.

The landscape of Grenada is truly second to none. It’s absolutely beautiful and you have the impression that there is still so much to be discovered and explored. There’s something for everyone here – beaches, forts, spice plantations, waterfalls and rainforests. There’s so much but still space for you to do it at your own pace and that’s exactly what we did. We visited Fort Frederick, Concord falls (and even got to play in the water!), the famous Grande Anse beach as well as the Carenage. This trip was very much about relaxation but we did manage to get a few sights in. Have a look at we managed to pack in!

Despite the rocky start, I was so happy to move to the Secret Harbour Boutique Hotel and it absolutely made up for the nonsense of the first day. It is a marina resort hotel and it’s definitely the spot to go to when you just want to chill and be with nature (preferably on the water). The staff are super friendly and a fountain of knowledge about the island and things to do (Carla in particular was such a delight!).

It was quite refreshing to get out and experience some of the beautiful nature trails and waterfalls of Grenada. In addition to Fort Frederick, we hiked the stunning Concord Falls before taking a dip in the pools of the waterfall.

After the hike came the chance to get into the water. Hmmm!
