Postcards from Sopot

Just under 30 minutes away by train from the Old Town of Gdansk, and I found myself in the seaside resort of Sopot. Renowned for having the longest wooden pier in Europe, it’s a cute locale that I can just imagine would be buzzing in the summer months. Obviously the pier is the main draw, so we headed straight there though one can easily find themselves distracted by the cute restaurants and touristy shops on the short walk from the station.

Walking along the pier definitely seemed endless and I don’t think I actually made it to the end before turning back. It was so pretty being out there though, that if not for the cool breeze on my legs, I would have happily stayed strolling. Despite the cool air, the sun did its best to keep spirits up and if the crowds were anything to go by, it did a pretty good job.

Holidaying at the Polish Riviera may not necessarily be at the top of most bucket lists, however I can totally see it being an option for a summer vacation if you’re in the market for a cheap break without being overwhelmed by the tourist crowds that come with the territory for the other more well-known European rivieras (France and Italy anyone?). Gdansk is relatively quick and easy to get to from most major European cities with the aid of a number of low cost airlines so worth looking into if you’re up for something different and new.
