I’ve decided to start a monthly “current faves” series. It’s a bit like my “Checking In” series but will be more frequent. Plus, I have so many faves that I can’t be bothered to stockpile until December lest they are stale by then. So since we’ve just left September behind, I thought this would be the perfect place to start. Without further ado, here are my September faves!
There’s no better place to start than a mention of all the “September Issues”. What a massive moment for highly melanated females the world over. Everyone has talked about it, but I just want to put my two cents in and say it is amazing and I am so here for it. More, more, more! I hope it wasn’t just a “let’s give them this so they will be quiet forever” moment. I really hope not. Because we won’t be quiet. We want more!Kim’s Convenience – I stumbled on this show completely by accident and I thank God everyday. It’s absolutely hilarious. As a first generation immigrant child, I totally relate. Even if you’re not, you will still find Mr Kim (aka Appa) and his family’s misadventures utterly endearing and so comical. Watch and tell me if I’m lying.
How to Live Mortgage Free with Sarah Beeny – She’s at it again (does anyone else remember her from “Selling Houses” on Channel 4?), this time on Netflix, showing us inventive ways to escape the bondage of mortgage debt. The guy who paid off his mortgage in 8 years is my hero and the lady who turned the hole in the ground into a countryside paradise should be knighted. Watch and learn!
Nappily Forever – I remember seeing Sanaa Lathan’s shaved head roundabout this time last year and thinking “Welcome to the Winners’ Side”. Watching this made me want to take my braids out and rock my tiny fro all over again. A feel-good movie with a message about self-love and natural hair. What’s not to love?
Planted but not buried – This series is EVERYTHING. Every single video hit me in a new way, new revelation. I keep sharing these vids with my friends and my family and I thought I absolutely should be sharing it with you guys. I have been listening to their talks since the beginning of the year, but this series. Just wow. Seriously wow. Watch, listen, be blessed.
The Jesus and Jollof podcast – Two of my favourite things combined in a podcast that is hilariously delivered by two of my now favourite people Yvonne Orji and Luvvie Ajayi. Please go and have a listen to these two foolish goats (they describe themselves that way, don’t come for me!) and see if you won’t fall in love with podcast too. Love it!
Adidas superstars – I picked up a pair for 80kr at a flea market and they have been my trusty walking companions ever since. The trainer love is really in full effect! This serum did the ting (not the “thing”, the TING) for my face the latter part of the summer. I don’t know exactly how it worked but it did. My face felt and looked brighter, softer and skin more supple. I’ve just finished it so need to get another quick quick!
This talk by Holly Furtick is an excellent piece on why we all need a strong support system. Moving to a new country, being far from my family and friends has made me appreciate them and their support so much more. I couldn’t agree more with this talk. Let me know what you think.
The Marks and Spencer’s A/W collection. I want everything. I feel to just walk into one of their shops and just say “take my money”. Look at it and tell me you don’t want to hand over your bank card details too. Psst I may or may not have ordered this coat and this coat. Don’t tell anyone!
This moisturiser was just what the doctor ordered for my face this summer. When I first bought it, I had just moved back to Europe and it was absolutely wrong for the cold weather. But in the summer, when you need a light weight moisturiser, this was the perfect product. It soaked into my skin and left my skin feeling moisturised enough but no oily mess here. This would absolutely be my daily staple if I was still living in Nigeria. It’s cheap as chips – £2.50 is a steal! My advice? Stockpile for summer next year!
Rounding off the September faves was the launch of Stunna series from Fenty Beauty. Can Rihanna do anything wrong? The original Stunna red is a staple in my beauty arsenal and this is coming from someone who a year ago barely ever wore colour on her lips. Now, I want them all. I’m tired. Rihanna should just come and collect my wallet and share the pennies with M&S.Those are my September faves. What do you think? What were yours? Share in the comments below!
